LOCAL WALKS

Thie yn Droghad is only a few minutes walk from the Beach.

Whether for a gentle stroll or for the more serious walker, the Island is a perfect place. The beach is 5 minutes walk away, and the upper village 15 minutes.

The ‘salmon walks’ around Laxey take you along byways to the Laxey Wheel, Glen Gardens and Valley Gardens. Maps are available to guide you.

SNAEFELL MOUNTAIN RAILWAY

Take the Victorian electric tram from Laxey to the summit of Snaefell.  On a clear day you can see England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Also from Laxey the Manx Electric Railway to either Douglas and Ramsey, stopping off at all the glens along the route.

 

 

The Great Laxey Mine RailwayTHE GREAT LAXEY MINES RAILWAY

This small fun very narrow gauge railway runs ½ mile along the route of the old mines ore tramway towards the Wheel. Run by volunteers at weekends and Special holidays

 

 

THE GROUDLE  GLEN RAILWAY.

Between Laxey and Douglas on the coast road, this Victorian Attraction runs for about ¾ mile along the valley and around the headland to a small café with  oustanding sea views.

 

 

Karina M.V. KARINA

Travel aboard the Karina, the Islands largest pleasure cruiser, which sails on coastal excursions on the east coast of the Island from Douglas harbour to Laxey, Port Soderick and  Derbyhaven . Captain Carter will impart his extensive knowledge as you sail past points of interest. You may also see dolphins and seals.

 

Laxey Wheel THE GREAT LAXEY WHEEL

This is a unique spectacle, the largest working water wheel in the world. If you have a head for heights you can climb to the top of this 72 ½ foot diameter wheel. You can also follow the paths and even go underground.The Wheel is about 1 ½ miles up the valley from the chalets.

 

 

 

Steam RailwayISLE OF MAN STEAM RAILWAY

From Douglas the Isle of Man Steam Railway meanders through woodland and headland to Port Erin at the Southern end of the Island with many stops along the way

 

 

HORSE DRAWN TRAMS

You can ride along Douglas promenade on a horse drawn tram at a much slower pace than the traffic alongside you. Although this feature was in doubt for 2016, it will now be operating.
